Manicure Monday: DIY Sugar Nails

Hey guys! First off, I just wanted to say that I hope that everyone is having a safe and fun summer!

Anyways, I know that it’s been forever since I’ve done a MM, but lately I’ve been uninspired and lazy. Luckily, I saw this video by RealAsianBeauty on Youtube. Prior to this video, she posted one with salt, which basically gives the same effect, but I like the sugar one more. If you follow me on instagram, you saw these nails earlier today, but unfortunately, I had some malware problems, that have been resolved, that were preventing me from updating my blog.

  • Polishes: Julep Abbie, Covergirl Lav-Endure, Covergirl Peaches and Cream, Wet n Wild Mint, Essie Cute As A Button, NYC Top Coat (also my base coat), and NYC Matte Me Crazy Top Coat

*My matte top coat, Matte Me Crazy was purchased at my local Wal-Mart for $1.99

  • Sugar
  • A small container/bowl

The Procedure:

  1. Paint all your nails with a base coat.
  2. Paint each finger with 1-2 coats of each colored polish. I personally did two coats each, but it’s not necessary. It might be better if you only applied one coat because it’ll prevent the polish from getting thick like mine did.
  3. Next, paint your first finger with a generous amount of top coat. You want a pretty decent coat because this is going to be your “glue”.
  4. After applying the top coat, immediately press your nail flat into the sugar. In the video, Kristina says that you can either pour the sugar on or dip your finger in it. I tried both and found that pressing it into the sugar is easier because you get even coverage. Also, try not to go too crazy. I tried to make sure that I covered all of my nail, even the sides, which added extra sugar, and contributed to them being kinda thick.
  5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 on all your fingers.
  6. Once you have sugar coated all your fingers, apply a coat of matte top coat. I didn’t think one coat sealed in the sugar enough, so I added another.

The Outcome:

These nails are surprisingly easy to do. There isn’t too much fuss or mess. Obviously, you can’t expect them to last that long, sugar is landing on my keyboard as I type. I give them two days max. Unfortunately, the sugar will probably come off on your sheets when you sleep and I find that my fingers sometimes get sticky if my hands are wet because despite the top coat, the sugar will still dissolve. All in all, I think these nails are really cute and definitely worth a try if you want to try something different.

So, that’s it for this week’s Manicure Monday! I hope you guys enjoyed and I hopefully I’ll have another one up next week!

Manicure Monday: Lav-Endure and Mint Condition

This is just another quick update, since I haven’t posted in a while. So, I actually painted my nails yesterday, but since I have a crappy top coat, they started chipping this morning. Since there were already chipped, I kept picking at them throughout the day. When I got home today, I decided to redo them ago. Instead of sticking to a single color like I did last time, I decided to paint an accent finger. Unfortunately, this isn’t my best mani because I was painting my nails in bad lighting, while trying to watch The Voice. On top of that, I kept fast forwarding it since we were watching the recording and kept smudging the polish. With all of these things, plus a old, thick top coat, the manicure came out kinda clumpy. Despite the poor job, I wanted to post this since I haven’t done a manicure in a while and I was too lazy to take off all the polish and start again.

So sorry for the lack for nail posts, I’ve just been kinda lazy lately. I know this isn’t my best post, but I felt like I owed it to you guys since my last Manicure Monday was like a month ago! I hope you enjoy it anyways :)

Mini Nail Polish Haul

Hey guys, today is going to be a busy Monday, so I probably won’t be able to upload a Manicure Monday. I might not even have time for one this week, since I’m taking the SAT on Wednesday, and I have an AP Stats test on Friday.

Since I most likely won’t be able to have a MM this week, I decided to do a short post on the nail polish I got yesterday.

I got one from Target and 4 from HEB.

The colors I got were:

L’Oreal 400 Tangerine Crush

This was $4.99 at Target, but they’re slightly cheaper at HEB. I think they were $4.17.

The new Cover Girl Outlast Stay Brillant Nail Gloss in 125 Peaches and Cream

The same kind in 145 Lav-Endure.

Because these polishes are new, they are $4.94 at all stores, but you can find buy 2, get $3 off coupons in magazines. I got mine in the new Allure, but I know they also have them in People’s.

Revlon Nail Enamel in 260 Girly

I got this one for $1.17! It was originally priced at $3.67, but at HEB, they had a $2.50 off coupon for items over (I think) $3.50.

Orly Nail Lacquer in 40710 Pixie Dust

They only drugstore that I know of that sells Orly is HEB. Not only do they have a a decent selection of colors, they also always have the older ones on sale. This color was $1.99. Because of the “pixie” theme, there was even a little fairy charm that came with it. HEB also had other colors on sale, mainly pinks and reds.

So that’s the quick nail update for this week! Hopefully, I’ll be able to post again in a couple of days, but if not, I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the week!
